VERDICT:
Day 1 of 2012 and I already did something new! This is the first time I ever got to watch an MMFF movie on the big screen.
What I liked about Manila Kingpin:
- How it bravely deviated from the staple genres we're all so sick of. It's been a while since I watched a Pinoy action movie. FPJ would've been proud.
- The black-and-white presentation. There's the vintage feel but with good audio. Plus ...it somewhat masked the gore of the bloodbath it portrayed.
- Casting of the new generation's sidekicks along with the action movie "suki" goons of the 80-90s. Welcome back, John Regala!
- That slow-mo, dialogue-free action sequence near the end to the tune of Mad World by Tears for Fears. I seriously thought they were gonna use Everybody Wants to Rule the World, haha.
- The buildup of emotion in #4, then you see Ketchup on a bike. Laugh trip!
- Ely Buendia! Ikaw na!
What I didn't like:

- The movie was about 2 hours long and the middle part was so damn boring.
- Jeorge Estregan. Sorry Gov but you're just too OLD for the role. And it looked like you were taking advantage of Carla Abellana. Ewwwww lang.
